1. Sign up for the boards.
2. Read the main board rules, the character creation rules and our board's FAQs.
These will get you started, and let you know what's allowed and what's not.
3. If you're interested in a canon (ie. from the series) character, check the list of open characters first. If your character of choice is available, or you're making an original character (ie. one you make up yourself), then read the information on the area your character is from and their culture. If the character is a bender, it might not hurt to read up on their style of bending, too.
4. Fill out either the canon character application or the original character application, and post it here.
5. Once your character is approved, you can start roleplaying. ^_^
