Brief Character History:
A self-training waterbender, Katara grew up in the South Water Tribe. At a young age, Katara’s mother died leaving only a necklace as her keep sake, Katara treasures it as if it were her own life. One day she and her brother Sokka came across the Avatar Aang frozen in ice, this marked the start of a great adventure for the three of them. Their first objective was to get to the North Pole and contact the North Water Tribe, there they would find a Waterbending master to train Aang and possibly Katara
Though their travels Katara picked up a waterbending scroll where she self taught herself some defense and attacking techniques. During another one of their adventures, Katara discovered her ability to heal, she was definitely on her way to becoming a powerful waterbender. As the three continued north, Katara’s skill increased with the help of Aang. The two became training partners and learned from one another, their relationship blossomed from just friends to a tight knit family. Eventually Katara developed a strong bond between with Aang as if he was a very close friend, or maybe something even more?
Upon arriving at the North Pole, Katara tried to get the waterbending master Pakku to train her, however he refused. Upset, Katara challenged the waterbending master to a duel, in which she lost. However thanks to her mother’s keep sake, Katara was accepted as a student. Her determination allowed her to quickly master the basics of waterbending and she now can hold her own in a one on one duel with the exiled prince of the Fire Nation. Now that Aang has mastered waterbending the trio set out for their next adventure
Brief Character Personality:
A confident and self sufficient youth, Katara isn’t like tradition women. Due to most of her life being an older sister figure to the children of the South Water Tribe, Katara learned responsibility at a young age. Aside from being very dependable, Katara is determined to prove her worth to anyone who doubts her. Many doubted her waterbending skills, however she strived to prove them wrong and her determination drives her to better herself. This in itself can bring out her competitive side, however Katara is still a girl and she can’t hide her feelings when swept away by a charming young man or a childish Avatar…
Character Motivation:
Her primary goal is to help Aang on his journey, Katara also wishes to meet with her father who left for war. However one of her current ambitions is to improve her waterbending abilities
Character Strengths:
With a strong determination Katara is hard to push down. Once her mind is set on something she will fight for it even with the odds against her. Be it defending her friends against the Fire Nation or deciding who is in charge of the day’s chores, Katara’s strong will pulls her through
Character Weakness:
Though her skill as a waterbender has grown, she’s still inexperienced in real combat. When she can’t get things to go her way she can get frustrated and lose focus. She also has a soft spot for charming boys and can get swept off her feet if she enjoys herself too much
Character Bending/Warrior Skills:
Katara has self trained herself in the art of waterbending, however she recently trained under Master Pakku one of the best waterbenders in the North Water Tribe. She’s mastered the basics but still has plenty of room to grow
Character Talents:
You can’t go on an adventure without the skills to cook, clean and sew! The three essential skills for camping
Plans to develop the character:
Of course I plan on having Katara expand on her waterbending. Perhaps shift her social relationship to different members of the forum, original and canon.
Role Playing Sample:
It was a clear day, not a cloud in the sky. Katara snuck away from camp with the waterbending scroll she liberated from some Pirates in town. She regretted the fact that she promised Aang that he could practice with it, but she couldn’t resist this chance. Real waterbending! Excited, Katara skipped down to the river where she would practice
Rolling the scroll out over the face of a dead tree stump, Katara stood next to the water and got into position. Her arms loose and calm, she slowly moved mimicking the flow of water. The stream beside her flowed with her movements, a single jet of water slowly raised and like a charmed snake followed Katara’s movements
Excited, Katara couldn’t help but hasten her movements. A bad idea. The stream wavered and nearly broke, but the she was able to catch it and resume her calm steady movements. Ready to attempt to practice the water whip, Katara raised her right arm and was about to wave it forward when a familiar voice broke her concentration….
“Kaataraaaa!!! Where are you?!”
Aang’s voice rang through her ears as her attempted water whip fell like rain on the ground. Frustrated, Katara bellowed back
“I’m here!! <argh!> Why are you so noisy in the morning Aang!!!”
