Name: Shen Kimiyo (first name is Kimiyo)
Age: 15
Nationality: Fire Nation
Job: Spy. Kimiyo is one of the field commanders in her father's spy network (which has a looser ranking structure than the rest of the military), and will generally infiltrate places for the Fire Nation (with or without others) and find out tactical weaknesses.
Hair: Kimiyo's hair is long, dark, and constantly changing in style (as she disguises herself as being from different areas). She favours styles that keep her hair out of her way, whether it is a simple bun or ponytail, or a more elaborate style.
Eyes: Sharp and yellow.
Weight: 140 pounds, though one would guess that she was lighter on first glance. There's a fair amount of muscle on her arms and legs from all of her training.
Height: 5'3"
Family: Kimiyo's family is one of the Fire Nation's old bloodlines. The ancestor Kimiyo is the most proud of is her great-great-great-great-grandfather Nobuo, who managed to be both the weakest firebender the clan had ever produced as well as its most prodigous warrior. He was the founder of the Shen clan's present fighting style. As for her living relatives, Kimiyo's immediate family consists of her father (Zanza), mother (Midori) and two older brothers, Zheng and Kazuo.
Likes: Reading, meditation, learning/developing new techniques, having a long and hot bath after training, control, travel, being treated as a capable adult, her visits with Zula
Dislikes: Noise, chaos, juvenile behaviour, feeling out of control, large crowds, the many personas her line of work forces her to adopt, abuses of power
Combat/bending skills: Kimiyo is a skilled firebender with extremely precise control over small to moderate amounts of fire. She has learned to merge her bending with her sword fighting techniques. She is far from mastering any high level firebending techniques or any other weapons, though she is well on her way to mastery with acupuncture needles.
Talents: Kimiyo is an accomplished spy, which entails being decent enough at disguising herself and acting to gain people's trust. It also means being very observant, quick, and good at finding hiding places where she won't be found. Kimiyo is able to mask her emotions and keep herself largely detached from people she is spying on. She also manages to have just enough of a "normal" girl's lifeskills to avoid suspicion, though none of these (sewing, cooking, and other such tasks) bear mentioning as something she does particularly well.
Motivation: Much like the rest of her clan, Kimiyo will do what is best for the Fire Nation. Also like the rest of her clan, Kimiyo isn't sharing what she feels is best for the Fire Nation to any outsiders. As for her personal motivation, Kimiyo aspires to never lose control over her firebending abilities again.
Personality: Kimiyo is a serious, disciplined young woman with class. Though her career does not permit her to be terribly honest and forthright, she manages to hold true to her own personal code of honor (or at least strives for it). She is the sort of person that is easier to respect than like. She can be rather harsh at times.
Personality strengths: Serious, intelligent, disciplined, and honorable. Kimiyo possesses a sense of noble obligation that she holds to steadfastly. She is generally polite, though sometimes it's a very cold polite for the sake of good manners and nothing more. She holds herself to a very high standard.
Personality flaws: Kimiyo can be a very cold person, when she is not putting on some false persona to get people to trust her. A person must make a very good impression on her in order for her to warm up to them, even a little. She doesn't have much of a sense of humour, nor is she very tolerant of people that she perceives as having poor self-control, discipline, manners, maturity, etc. She's also rather harsh when it comes to "what must be done", whether she is holding herself or other people to that standard.
Weaknesses: Kimiyo's biggest weakness is her inability to control powerful firebending techniques. One particularly bad experience with failing to control firebending has created a roadblock for her - while her control over the less powerful techniques is nothing short of impressive, if she attempts a powerful technique, she will seize up with fear of losing control, and inevitably lose control, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Kimiyo also finds it exceptionally difficult to really open up to others. Her training in masking her emotions and creating personas has made socialization hard for her. Either it is false because she's not being herself, or it's awkward because she is being herself and is uncomfortable.
Brief history:
Summarized version - Kimiyo was trained as a spy, and in the arts of combat from an early age. Her father had plans to utilize the Shen clan's reputation as being the first to know useful information to his advantage and to form a spy network, and thusly, he trained people who wouldn't be taken for the Fire Nation's army to be spies in the network. Ten years later, the network was implemented, after a dramatic presentation in the royal court.
Full version - Kimiyo grew up in a noble clan that was known for always being amongst the first to know of any important news. As such, some methods of information gathering were learned in early childhood, as normal behaviour within her family. Her father had ideas for an official spy network becoming part of the military, with his own clan being that spy network. As such, he decided that it would be necessary to train at least some of the clan's females in the combat arts. Because female spies would be less likely to be suspected, they would become an invaluable part of the network and needed to be able to defend themselves. Kimiyo was put through particularly stringent training, and her father seemed to treat her as a son in a female body, rather than a daughter.
Everything Kimiyo learned about being a "normal" girl, she learned from her mother and other female relatives. The most important lessons that Kimiyo learned from her mother, however, were the ones that developed her sense of noble obligation and courtesy. From her father, she learned strategy, how to "disappear" in plain sight (ie. distraction techniques, and effective hiding places), the art of eavesdropping, tracking, and most importantly, the arts of combat and firebending. Because of her promising level of power and control, he taught her the art created by her great-great-great-great-grandfather, combining bending with weapons mastery.
Nearly ten years after her father initially conceived the idea for the spy network, he presented the idea of the spy network to Lord Ozai. He was aware of a planned assassination, and had made certain the assassin was fed enough information to get past palace security, all the while havinv Kimiyo tail the assassin. He presented the idea of the network, and mentioned that his sources had told him there would be an assassination attempt on Lord Ozai's life that evening. He also added that his clan was keeping track of it, but didn't know exactly when the assassin would strike. As soon as the assassin found an opening, while Lord Ozai's attention was occupied by another clan leader addressing him, the assassin made his move. Kimiyo appeared before he reached Lord Ozai, decapitating the would-be assassin of the Fire Lord in front of the royal court, including Princess Zula. Kimiyo bowed politely and excused herself, the implementation of her father's network ensured.
Afterwards, Kimiyo and the other women participating in the recently approved spy network were each branded with a small mark on their right shoulder, to mark them as members of the Fire Nation's army, rather than imposters breaking the nation's laws about women in the army. Her display in court gained her an appointment as a field commander, and the respect of Princess Zula, whom she has since developed a strange sort of friendship with.
Description: Kimiyo is a serious young woman, seldom found without her katana. She carries herself with dignity, and never seems to smile (or if she does, it never reaches her eyes). Due to her career as a spy, her clothing and hairstyles vary, in order to fit in with the different cultures she's trying to blend in with. However, she does prefer modest and loose clothing that covers a lot, but doesn't hinder movement. Occasionally, Kimiyo will cross-dress in men's armour and pretend to be a 12 year old boy, but generally she won't hide her gender. She is in good physical condition and has a fair amount of lean muscle mass on her body.

(OOC: @_@ This is long. I promise her posts will not be like this.)
As the people of this moderately sized earth kingdom village carried about their businmess, the soldiers of the Fire Nation prepared their attack. Kimiyo's sensitive hearing picked up the faintly rhythmic noise of the first of the cavalry troops moving in. The rest of the soldiers, she knew, would come in with their commander after teh battle was halfway over alredy, to claim victory in the names of Captain Taka and Lord Ozai.
She frowned slightly to herself. While the village had some magnificently strong eawrth benders within it, it also contained a lot of civilians. Cigilians that had recognized her as a newcomer, but treated her with the utmost courtesy. These were good people, who didn't deserve the fate that awaited them. Captain Taka was a brutal man, even by the standards of the Fire Nation. Stories of what he did with people he considered "the spoils of war" turned stomachs and it was likely that the only reason he held his position was because he was effecient in his conquests.
"Elder Gozau," she said, approaching the first village authority she could find.
"Yes, Keiko?" he asked, addressing her by the fake name she'd given when she'd first come here. He was clearly alarmed by the look of concern on her face.
"The women and children...get them inside to safety. Quickly."
Gozau's gentle eyes narrowed. "And why, perchance, would that be necessary?"
"I hear the sound of soldiers marching," said Kimiyo honestly. Gozau listened carefully, and after a few seconds, found that he could hear them too. He left to get the women and children to safety, but returned a little more quickly than expected with several of the village's stronger earth benders. Several members of the spy network were around and moved closer after a subtle visual prompt from Kimiyo.
"If the women needed to be brought inside, you should have gone with them..unless you think you can fight an army of firebenders with just that sword of yours," Gozau said, raising an eyebrow at Kimiyo suspiciously.
In her opinion, Gozau's suspicion was good. This meant that Kimiyo could drop the charade. In a flash, the sword was drawn and pointed an inch away from Gozau's throat, tip flaming. As the earth benders closed in to help Gozau, the fire benders from the spy network revealed themselves, each assuming a firebender's stance.
"Elder Gozau," said Kimiyo, her voice much colder and authoritative than it had been moments ago. "In less than five minutes, your village will be overtaken by the Fire Nation. They are prepared for your earth benders and warriors, and they are aware of every one of this village's tactical weaknesses."
"You--" said the elderly man angrily. "We took you in, and you lied to us! You betrayed us!"
Kimiyo didn't waste time responding to the accusations. Instead, she moved on to what she could do for these people. It wasn't much, but it was better than what Captain Taka would offer them. "You have two options. Fight and see your village slaughtered, or surrender peacefully and set some terms of occupation."
"Why should we believe anything you say anymore, Keiko?" asked one of the earth benders angrily. He looked ready to crush her with a boulder, but held in the urge for Elder Gozau's sake.
"Because Taka is not a man who will offer you these terms. Taka will slaughter you, men, women and children alike, and he will enjoy it. The things he has done in war have repulsed a good portion of even our army, and he's comign right now." Sharply golden-yellow eyes focused on Elder Gozau. "I'll only say this once: name your terms of surrender."
Gozau glared back at her, for a period of time that seemed much longer than the thirty seconds of intense silence that passed with her sword at his throat. "Fine," he said with a sigh. "First of all, our women, children, elderly and infirm are to be left unharmed. If the Fire Nation requires it, we will labour for them, and we will not attempt to resist with earth bending, but we must be allowed enough income to feed and clothe our families properly."
Kimiyo nodded. "On the Fire Nation's honor, with several of our citizens present to witness, we accept your terms of surrender." These words were spoken just as the cavalry arrived. She sheathed her sword and approached the soldiers. One of them, a distant cousin of hers, nodded to his commanding officer to indicate that she was, in fact, supposed to be here on behalf of the Fire Nation.
"These people have surrendered," said Kimiyo, bowing respectfully to the commanding officer. "I'm sure that Captain Taka will be unhappy about this, so I will take full responsibility and I will tell him personally what happened here."
The faintest look of gratitutde passed over his eyes before he resumed his stoic, commanding demeanor. "You're right to guess that the captain will be displeased - he likely would have preferred to set terms himself. I'll make sure this village's women and children are inside their homes before Captain Taka arrives. You, on th eother hand, may wait here to greet him." The possibility that Captain Taka's temper and bloodlust might get away from him was not spoken of aloud, but it was understood.
A few minutes later....
"You presumptuous...little!" Captain Taka didn't complete his growling insult, the flames that burst from his hands and disappated after a moment conveyed his feelings better than any derogatory word might have. "What gave you the right? This was MY conquest! Your duty was to gather information, nothing else!" He sneered at her. "This is what happens when the Fire Lord lets women have positions in the army. What have you got to say?"
"The conquest was a complete success," said Kimiyo. "The Fire Nation has seized this village without sustaining a single loss."
"Without fighting!" shouted Captain Taka, raising his hands up angrily. "Where's the honor in that?"
"If you or anyone else wants to treat today's incident as a reflection of my honor, I will not speak out against it," said Kimiyo with a curt bow. "A victory is still a victory for the Fire Nation and for Fire Lord Ozai."
Taka apparently didn't care for being reminded that the conquest belonged to Lord Ozai and not him personally. He glared venomously at Kimiyo and the earth benders who had ventured within earshot, then turned on his heels and started barking out orders to his soldiers.
"Keiko," said Elder Gozau, approaching her hesitantly.
"It's Kimiyo," said Kimiyo, offering her real name. "Shen Kimiyo."
"Why did you...?"
"Mercy is easier to live with than murder," she replied simply. "Please accept my thanks to your village for the courtesy they showed me during my stay."
"So, you're leaving then?"
Kimiyo nodded. "Within the hour. Goodbye, Elder Gozau."
