The Water Tribes
The Water tribes are divided into two groups, the Northern and the Southern. Each tribe resides at separate poles, with a very different style of life. The Southern tribe has been nomadic since the beginning of the war and the destruction of their great city.
Nomadic life style for the Southern Tribe has resulted in a steady decline of population a loss of their older traditions and the left them with a drive and focus to simply survive. Presently, only one Waterbender hails from the Southern Tribe and she was in no way qualified to teach others. Since the men are presently away at war, all that’s left at the southern pole is children above the age of two, the old, the infirm, and the women. The South Pole’s total population ranges between one to two hundred people. (This estimate based on a population you’d need to sustain a tribe without inbreeding.) This is a far cry from the large proud Tribe they once were.
The Northern Tribe has had an easier time the last century and is still thriving, with their culture and city (relatively) intact. The large city has an immense population, a rich cultural heritage, and a sense of pride that covers the ice covered landscape.
